Just a reminder that tomorrow we will be heading to Dufferin Grove Park for a fun day outside. We will leave Dewson at around 10:30am and return at 3:15pm. We will be walking over and from 11:45-12:30 we will be making personal sized pizzas in the stone oven at the park. The pizzas aren’t very filling for a full day at the park so I suggest the children still bring a packed lunch and 1 or 2 water bottles. Please dress for the weather and bring sunscreen if needed. It might rain in in the morning but the weather looks good for when we plan to arrive.
Parents (and pets) are welcome to join us at the park -the more the merrier! We didn’t factor in parents making pizzas, though. So please bring food for yourself if needed 🙂 Sometimes parents bring snacks for the children to share, that’s totally fine, but please keep in mind the no nut rule still applies in the park.
Children can bring balls, frisbees, outdoor games, etc…but please no water guns or water toys. If the splash pad is open, students can go in as long as they have a towel, bathing suit or a change of clothes. ( In my experience students are very uncomfortable all day if they get their clothes soaked and have no dry clothes!)
I’m looking to a fun day! Please let me know if you have any questions.
#7 & #8 with no sentences is due tomorrow (we will corrected it in the morning before leaving for the park).
Despite all the rainy weather this week we had a lot of fun in Area 44!
-The kids wrote and presented movie ads with their grade 2 learning buddies.
-They’ve been working hard all week on their French and English nonfiction reports.
-Oliver G, Ansel and Mathuran represented Dewson at the Track & Feild city finals! The grade 4 relay team (including Ansel & Oliver G) placed 5th in the city. Mathuran placed 1st in all of Toronto for 200 meters! Bravo everyone!!
-We wrapped up morning Basketball Club–our class has some awesome b-ballers!
-And saving the best for last, FESTIVAL. It was an amazing event, as usual. Thank you to all the parents who dedicated their time and hard work to make it happen. It was great!
DUFFERIN GROVE TRIP:
There will be a bright blue note in backpacks tonight with a reminder and details for Tuesday’s end of year trip. If you haven’t paid the $5 or brought in the form yet please remember it’s due on Monday–if you have, I thank you!
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:
Tomorrow our class will be jumping rope from 9:30-10:30am. Each student will be given a rope to use during the event and to keep afterwards. Please make sure your child has proper gear for the expected weather tomorrow. Everyone participates even if you didn’t raise money. If you have raised money and haven’t brought it yet, please send it asap.
DUFFERIN GROVE TRIP:
On Tuesday we are heading to the park! Please send the permission form and $5 back by Monday if you haven’t already. See previous post for all the details. Thanks!
Oh, and sorry, I forgot to mention the bright yellow math review sheet is due tomorrow! Please make sure your child brings it and any questions they might still have about geometry. Thanks!
END OF YEAR TRIP:
On Tuesday, June 16th we will be heading to Dufferin Grove Park for a fun day outside to celebrate the end of a great year! We will leave Dewson at 10:30am and return at 3:15pm. We will be walking over and from 11:45-12:30 we will be making personal sized pizzas in the stone oven at the park! The cost for this trip (pizza part is the only paying portion) is $5 per student. The pizzas aren’t very filling for a full day at the park so I suggested the children still bring a packed lunch and for sure a water bottle. Make sure to dress for the weather and bring sunscreen if needed.
Please have your child bring the form (in backpacks tonight) and $5 by Monday at the very latest.
Parents (and pets) are welcome to join in–no limit this time, so the more the merrier! We didn’t factor in parents making pizzas, though. So please bring food for yourself if needed 🙂 Sometimes parents bring snacks for the children to share, that’s totally fine, but please keep in mind the no-nut rule still applies in the park.
Children can bring balls, frisbees, outdoor games, etc…but please no guns or water toys.
#7 & #8 with no sentences is due next Tuesday June 16th (we will corrected it in the morning before leaving for the park).
The Rock Cycle questions are due tomorrow for the spelling homework this week. Please make sure your child has it with him/her tomorrow in class.
MATH REVIEW & TEST:
The children have a bright yellow sheet in their backpacks tonight, it’s the geometry review sheet. It’s due on Wednesday of this week, we will correct it then as well. The test will be on Thursday 11th. (LAST TEST! WOO HOO!)
Please have your child look at the questions tonight and bring back the sheet if they need further explanation. It’s pretty short and simple, I think. As mentioned in previous posts, there were some inattentive people when I was teaching many of these concepts on the Smartboard. If they don’t get something they can come see me tomorrow or Wednesday before the test. We did the first question together in class to get them going, so hopefully everyone is ok!
Here’s a digital copy of the review if you need one.
TRACK DAY POSTPONED:
Track day tomorrow has been postponed. Just heard it in the office, I thought I’d give those of you involved a head’s up. It’s due to weather. I’m sure Maryann will have more details shortly on www.dewsonschool.wordpress.com They’re in the process of rescheduling I think…you read here first, hot off the press 😉
This week was a short but busy week in area 44!
-The children identified and classified different rocks and minerals in science.
-They wrote “Tweets” on iPhone stickies as different characters in our read aloud book Wonder (in under 140 characters, of course!)
– We unveiled their wonderful fossils.
– They made 3D structures to show they understood the different types of solids and what the words “charpente” “sommets” and “arrêtes” mean when constructing 3D shapes.
– They’ve also been working hard on their English expert reports and their French Ancient Civilizations reports.
Bon weekend! Tomorrow is a PA day, see you on Monday!
